LIVERPOOL, England (REUTERS) - Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp concedes he faces a selection dilemma as centre back Dejan Lovren is unlikely to feature against Bayern Munich in Tuesday's (Feb 19) Champions League last 16 fixture at Anfield.
Lovren is still recovering from a hamstring injury sustained against Wolverhampton Wanderers last month and the Croatia defender did not travel with the rest of the squad to the club's warm-weather training camp in Marbella this week.
"I don't want to rule it out but I cannot really plan with it," Klopp told the club's website.
"He is not here for good reasons, because he cannot be part of training. We are back on Friday. Then from Saturday on, Dejan is back at Melwood and we will see."
First-choice centre back Joe Gomez is out of action having undergone surgery on a fractured leg, with no timescale put on his return.
With Virgil van Dijk suspended for the first leg encounter against the German champions, Klopp may consider slotting in Brazil midfielder Fabinho alongside Joel Matip at the heart of the defence.
"Of course, we have to prepare it differently. If Dejan gives a sign on Monday - 'I feel brilliant' - then we'd have to think anew," Klopp added.
"But in the moment we prepare the game and in this preparation Dejan is not involved. We have to find other solutions."

MANCHESTER, United Kingdom (AFP) - Manchester City conceded ground to leaders Liverpool atop the Premier League on Saturday (Dec 22) after a stunning Andros Townsend goal contributed to a jaw-dropping 3-2 victory for Crystal Palace at the Etihad.
The defeat ended City's perfect home form in the league this season and arrived 28 years to the day since Palace last won on the road against the Blues.
City had not lost any of their previous 52 league games against teams outside the traditional "big six", a run dating back nearly two years to a defeat at Everton in January 2017.
But after Ilkay Gundogan had handed them the perfect start, City were undone by goals from Jeffrey Schlupp, Townsend and a Luka Milivojevic penalty - all three coming in an 18-minute spell.
Palace, trailing to Gundogan's well-placed headed opener, turned the game on its head with two goals in as many minutes just after the half hour.
First, City were badly exposed in midfield, failing to deal with Wilfried Zaha and Townsend, who played in James McArthur.
John Stones finally made a tackle but succeeded only in pushing the ball on to Schlupp, who capitalised on some uncertain defending from Kyle Walker, driving the ball past the defender and the diving goalkeeper Ederson into the far corner.
The Etihad crowd, who had been expecting another effortless victory after taking the lead, were stunned into silence and the situation was about to worsen.
A free-kick was headed out by Aymeric Laporte, Gundogan missed a chance to clear his area and Bernardo Silva succeeded only in heading the ball out to Townsend.
The England international connected with an incredibly well-executed, first-time left-foot volley that soared above the diving Ederson and into the top of the City net from fully 30 yards.
It was a stunning development for a City side that have lost just two home league games - to Chelsea and Manchester United - in the two-and-a-half seasons in which Guardiola has been in charge.

CITY DOMINATION

There had been little sign of such drama as City took their customary stranglehold on the game, enjoying 78 per cent of the possession in the first half.
They took a predictable lead in the 27th minute with an excellently worked goal, Leroy Sane passing the ball back to Fabian Delph on the left wing.

His accurate cross allowed Gundogan to ghost between defenders Mamadou Sakho and Patrick van Aanholt to head a superb finish past Vicente Guaita.
But, with Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne watching from the bench and David Silva and Fernandinho absent from the squad completely, there were surprisingly few moments of real danger from the defending champions.
Guardiola had seen enough four minutes into the second half, bringing on Aguero but not even the club's all-time leading goalscorer could bring about an immediate improvement, with City conceding a third in the 51st minute.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka's cross found the head of Townsend, whose effort struck the right-hand post, rebounding into play for Max Meyer and forcing a panicked Walker into making a challenge referee Andre Marriner judged to be a foul.
Milivojevic showed admirable composure to stride up and send Ederson the wrong way from the resulting penalty.
Guardiola brought De Bruyne off the bench in an effort to spark some life into his side's performance and it worked, with a 25-yard Gundogan volley flying just wide and Sane hitting the outside of the post with a terrific 30-yard free-kick.
De Bruyne himself guaranteed a frantic final five minutes as his deep right-wing cross, intended for Sane at the far post was misjudged by Guaita and flew into the top corner for the last goal of the day.

LONDON (AFP) - Liverpool moved back top of the Premier League with a 2-0 win at Cardiff, but Manchester United and Arsenal did little for their chances of Champions League qualification for next season in shock defeats to Everton and Crystal Palace respectively on Sunday.
United were thrashed 4-0 at Everton to continue a miserable run of six defeats from their last eight games.
Arsenal remain fourth, but failed to open up a five-point lead over United as Crystal Palace became the first visiting side to win at the Emirates in the Premier League since Manchester City on the opening weekend of the campaign with an impressive 3-2 victory.
Liverpool suffered no such slip ups to move two points ahead of Manchester City, who still have a game in hand, at the top.
Jurgen Klopp's men have now won their last nine games in all competitions, to also set up a Champions League semi-final against Barcelona.
"It's really massive. We spoke a lot about this game, how special it is, how special the situation is for the opponent," said Klopp, who bemoaned the dry state of Cardiff's pitch under baking temperatures.
"It was not a game for playing around. It was a battle of will, who wants it more." But in keeping with recent weeks, Klopp could not relax until late on as Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah missed big chances to give the visitors a first-half lead.
Georginio Wijnaldum finally broke the deadlock in emphatic fashion with a thumping finish from Trent Alexander-Arnold's corner just before the hour mark.
Liverpool had to survive one major scare when Cardiff captain Sean Morrison failed to connect with his head when it seemed harder to miss with the goal at his mercy 26 minutes from time.
Morrison then compounded his error at the other end when he grappled with Salah inside the area and referee Martin Atkinson pointed to the spot, even though the Egyptian threw himself dramatically to the floor.
James Milner stepped up to bury the resulting penalty and ensure Liverpool are poised to strike if City stumble.

Man United humiliated

Unfortunately, for Klopp's side, United look in no fit state to inflict the blow on the champions they need come the Manchester derby on Wednesday.
Everton celebrated their biggest win over a shambolic Red Devils since 1984 to move up to seventh.
Richarlison's acrobatic effort and a long range effort from Gylfi Sigurdsson inside the first 28 minutes gave Everton the perfect start.
And they struck twice again early in the second-half through Lucas Digne and Theo Walcott.
"From the first whistle everything went wrong," said Solskjaer.
"I just want to apologise to the fans. They're the only people with the badge on today who can hold their heads high, because we can't." And the Norwegian hinted that major changes are to come in the summer whether they reach the Champions League or not.
"We can't change the whole squad, it has to be one step at a time but I said all along, I'm going to be successful here and there are players who won't be part of that successful team."
Arsenal wasted a glorious opportunity to move above north London rivals Tottenham into third as after 10 straight home league wins, Palace shocked the Emirates with the three points that guarantees their survival.
Christian Benteke's first goal for a year put the Eagles in front before Mesut Ozil equalised early in the second half.
However, Shkodran Mustafi's blunder allowed Wilfried Zaha to put Palace back in front before James McArthur took advantage of more woeful Arsenal defending to make it 3-1.
"It's a big frustration because it was a big opportunity. At the set pieces, we didn't work and weren't as strong as we have been," said Arsenal boss Unai Emery.
"Their second goal was very bad for us and took away our confidence." Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang reduced the deficit, but it was too late to stop Palace's first league win at Arsenal since October 1994.

LONDON (AFP) - Gordon Banks, the England football team's goalkeeper when they won the 1966 World Cup, has died aged 81, his former club Stoke announced on Tuesday (Feb 12).
His family said the former star, who lost an eye in a car crash in 1972, had died in his sleep.
"It is with great sadness that we announce that Gordon passed away peacefully overnight," they said.
"We are devastated to lose him but we have so many happy memories and could not have been more proud of him."
Geoff Hurst, who scored a hat-trick in the 4-2 win over West Germany in the World Cup final at Wembley, tweeted a fulsome tribute to his former team-mate.
"Very sad to hear the news that Gordon has died. One of the very greatest," tweeted the 77-year-old.
"Thinking especially of Ursula (wife), Julia, Wendy and Robert (children). Sad for football, Stoke City and for England fans. Will be very sadly missed."

Banks, who played in every game of that historic campaign, is probably best known for a wonder save he produced to deny football legend Pele in a 1970 World Cup group match in Mexico.
"Once I got my hand to it I hadn't a clue where it was going," he modestly said afterwards.
Pele - who would go on to lift the trophy - admitted later he had said "gol", so sure was he that the ball was heading into the net. Brazil still won the game 1-0.
However, Banks later recounted that he did not appreciate the remark made by one of his team-mates that day, midfielder Alan Mullery.
"I patted him on his head, and I said 'why didn't you catch it?' and the abuse that came back was unbelievable," said Mullery.
Banks, whose club playing career revolved largely around Stoke and Leicester, is the latest of the 1966 team to die.
Captain Bobby Moore, the baby of the team Alan Ball and Ray Wilson preceded him while several such as Nobby Stiles and Martin Peters suffer from Alzheimer's.
Mullery said Banks was probably the best goalkeeper he had played with or against.
"He was the best at that time. We had some great goalkeepers in those days, and the only person I can think came near was Pat Jennings," said Mullery. "He was absolutely marvellous goalkeeper. He was a likeable man, and when it came to business, he was probably the best there has ever been."

Another former Leicester and England legend Gary Lineker - albeit from a later generation - also tweeted his appreciation of Banks, whose sole trophies at club level were two League Cups, one piece with Stoke and Leicester.
"Oh no. Gordon Banks, an absolute hero of mine, and countless others, has died," tweeted Lineker. "@England's World Cup winner was one of the greatest goalkeepers of all time, and such a lovely, lovely man. #RIPGordon."
Stoke City chairman Peter Coates said Banks - who played 250 times for The Potters after he joined from Leicester in 1967 - had not been in good health for several weeks.
"We've been expecting this, he has been (doing) poorly for a number of weeks but it's a very sad day for us, we love him so much," said Coates. "He made his home in Stoke, and was very much part of the fabric of the club. You don't get too many like him, and he was immensely modest for all (his) talent.
"He told me when they walked out at Wembley for the final, and he had goose-bumps, he had never seen anything like it."

LONDON â€¢ Manchester City, branding themselves as "The Fourmidables", celebrated their domestic treble with an open-top bus parade on Monday, drawing an estimated 100,000 fans to the streets of the city centre.
Pep Guardiola's City became the first side to complete a clean sweep of all three major English trophies with last Saturday's 6-0 thrashing of Watford in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
They had clinched a second successive Premier League title the previous week and also won the League Cup in February.
It was the fourth time in seven years the club had taken over the city centre for a celebratory parade.
Adding the Community Shield to the tally, the club showed off their trophies and had banners with the words "The Fourmidables".
The victorious squad were joined by members of the City women's team, who also won an FA Cup and League Cup double this year.
Manager Guardiola insisted he has not thought about next season, but admitted Vincent Kompany will be missed after the captain confirmed his departure to become player-manager at Anderlecht.

"Zero," the Spaniard said when taking to the stage. "Now is time for good dinners and good wine. We will think about it in one month's time, and enjoy it now.
"I think we will miss Vincent a lot. He is coming back in the future in some way. It is an incredible way to finish the season."
Kompany said he realised the time was right to leave when he scored a stunning winner against Leicester in City's penultimate league match.
The 1-0 win took City to within one more win of the title, which they clinched with a 4-1 victory over Brighton on the last day.
Kompany said: "The moment that ball against Leicester went 'top bins', I knew I was done. I couldn't do anything better. It felt right."
The Belgian now expects the club to go on and achieve even greater success. "This team are ready to achieve so much more," he said.
"I've given everything I could for this club. I can't tell you how proud of that I am. I have nothing left. I have given everything."
He ended his speech by declaring City were the "best club in the world" regardless of European success: "I do not care if you win the Champions League or not, you are the best club in the world."
Organisers said the crowd for the parade, which culminated with the stage show outside Manchester Cathedral, was estimated to be around 100,000.
Before the parade, a video had emerged online of the league trophy being smashed to pieces at City's training ground, as players Sergio Aguero and Kevin de Bruyne looked on from a balcony above.
The video indicated that the trophy was dropped but the incident turned out to be just an elaborate prank for City's in-house City TV, as confirmed by Sky Sports.

So whenever his squad's character is questioned - even when the criticism comes from within - Pep Guardiola has to leap to their defence.
City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, whose contract expires at the end of next season, was scathing in his assessment of their defeat by Spurs, claiming the visitors were "not brave enough" in north London.
But, ahead of today's Premier League match at Crystal Palace, who beat City 3-2 in the league last December, Guardiola refuted his remarks, insisting that while "he (Gundogan) can say whatever he wants", he "absolutely did not agree" with them.
"We have been for 20 months incredible, two games in the last 24 lost. Twenty months, winning every three days, 180 points over the past two seasons," Guardiola said.
"We had two days' rest, they (Spurs) had six. Unfortunately, we could not score, but we have the second leg (on Wednesday) with our friends at home and we'll go for the semi-finals."
While he remains hopeful of turning things around in the reverse fixture, the title race must first take precedence, and the Spaniard knows that "Selhurst Park is always difficult because of the stadium and the quality of the players".
The City manager said: "We knew it weeks ago, how it would be between these important games. There are six games left (in the league).
"We know what we are playing for and we are going to see."
He also revealed midfielder Bernardo Silva and defender Oleksandr Zinchenko were touch and go for the meeting with Roy Hodgson's men. Silva, whose creativity was sorely missed against Spurs, has been one of City's standout players this term, but Guardiola will not take any chances with his fitness as their campaign draws to a close.
Calling the Portugal international an "incredible player", he added: "We will see today. Playing wide, he is a fighter.
"He's so intelligent and clever defensively. He knows when to cut back inside and, with the ball, he can do anything."
